etsy makes me happy.

this Etsy find combines one of my favorite accessories with one of my favorite eras. these 1920's inspired headbands by NevaPlume are great for every day or night on the town. I'm such a huge fan of the 20's headpieces that are back in style, and these are adorable and unique. at $24-$34 these are a steal!

this art deco piece is my favorite!

if the Choo fits

best. news. ever.

H&M has chosen it's latest designer to create an affordable line for their stores as a part of their limited edition designer collection. drum roll please......JIMMY CHOO (also known as the shoes that make my heart go pitter patter) will be arriving to 200 select stores around the world on November 14th. mark your calendars ladies. the designers of the unbelievably chic shoes promise to deliver quality Choos at a cheap price. the collection will include not just shoes, but handbags and clothes too! I'm loving H&M more and more these days so I'm crossing all fingers and toes that they will add an Austin location on the double. if not I suppose I'll be making a trip this fall to a city that does have one.

i have a bone to pick...

I don't know about everyone else, but when I'm shopping I like to do it without the assistance of store employees who, usually, are more of a hindrance than a help. am I right? well today while I had several hours of downtime (unfortunate), I decided to try on some shoes at Aldo. now I feel like I must point out that the quality doesn't match the price at this store and that's why I rarely go there anymore. today I decided that I need some gladiator sandals...like, really NEED. tried on several pairs and while I did so the sales woman practically sat on top of me AND tried twice to put my shoes on for me. maybe some people like this....I don't. stop doing that all of you over-zealous sales people of Austin. I'm far less likely to buy when I feel like you're trying to get my to buy you too.

annnnd I've officially stepped down from my soap box.  on a lighter note, here are some sandals that I am considering adding to my extensive collection of footwear. thoughts?

everyone needs a great gladiator in their life no?

so...

so, I just realized I start all my posts out with "so". gosh how unoriginal. consider this my last post beginning with "so" for awhile.

tasty tidbits

so as my love affair with all food Bobby Flay continues, I thought I would share one of my very favorite recipes. until last year I had a strong aversion to potato salad, which is quite odd being that I love love love all things potato-related (I could go on forever about the greatness that is the potato). that being said, the following is a recipe for the best potato salad you will ever consume. trust me on this one folks.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds small Yukon gold potatoes, scrubbed
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup prepared mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 red bell peppers, grilled, peeled, seeded and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon champagne or white wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Spanish smoked paprika
  • Canola oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley, plus more for garnish

Directions

Heat the grill to high. Place the potatoes in a large saucepan and cover by 1-inch with cold water. Add 1 tablespoon of salt, bring to boil over high heat and cook until just cooked through, about 10 minutes. Drain, let cool slightly and halve.

While the potatoes are cooking, combine the mayonnaise, mustard, peppers, garlic, vinegar, paprika and salt and pepper in a blender or food processor and process until smooth.

Brush the cut sides of the potatoes with oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill cut side down until lightly golden brown, about 2 minutes.

Toss the potatoes with the red pepper mayonnaise while still warm, mashing slightly to break them up. Fold in the parsley and season with salt and pepper, if needed.

best. idea. ever.

so as I was trolling the internet after a long day of work I came upon something so exciting that I had to share. apparently there are vending machines in the UK that sell "Roleasoles"- adorable little ballet flats that are to be used after a long night of partying. I want to meet the genius who came up with this one.

please please send these magic machines to the US of A on the double!

why the name?

so it's come to my attention that I should attempt to explain the random title of my blog. here it goes....I'm all about 2 things: fashion and food. potato of course is pretty self explanatory...potato=food (get it?). haute would be derived from the term "haute couture", which of course represents the fashion. haute-potato. simple yes? keep following me folks, I am almost positive that this blog is going to continue to get more interesting.

tasty tidbits

do not adjust your televisions! I am in fact posting twice in one day (a fact which I suspect will please B-Lou). what can I say, I'm a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl.

so I just tried a new Bobby Flay guacamole recipe whilst at the beach this past weekend. I must say, B. Flay never disappoints and this was no exception. how different could this recipe be from any other guac recipe right? not very as it turns out....however....it's the little ingredient changes that make this such a hit. obviously you need your standard avacado, cilantro (yum!), salt, and pepper. the "secret ingredient"?  fire roasted poblano peppers!  very simple but insanely delicious. big ups to Bobby Flay.

recipe is as follows:

Fire Roasted Green Chile Guacamole:

  • 2 ripe Hass avocados, peeled, pitted and diced
  • 1 poblano chile, roasted, seeded, peeled, and diced
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 2 scallions, finely chopped
  • 2 fresh limes
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • Salt and pepper

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and season with salt and pepper.

Yield: 4 to 6 servings

hello lover

so I'm finding that I may in fact be the last person on earth to hear about esty.com, aka the new love of my life. just in case we've been living under the same rock let me fill you in. etsy is simply "your place to buy and sell all things homemade". best part?  hundreds of a-m-a-z-i-n-g fashion finds at a freakin steal! I have a severe ring obsession myself so in light of that, here are some I've had my eye on.

vintage? yes please!

my inner Irish girl is dying to own this.

my favorite find of the day.

ok, obviously this one is a joke. unless you're in need of a ring that doubles as table. you could certainly throw a few appetizers on this baby at a party and not have to worry about carrying a plate. just sayin.

Goodbye sandy beaches

So after an amazing beach vacay I have been thrown (dragged, kicking and screaming would be more accurate) back into reality... and it bites.  As I ready myself for another vacationless week, I thought I would share one or two particularly amusing photos from the trip.

Best way to start out "Beach Vacay 2009"? Sneak Playgirl Mags Circa 2000 in both the mom's beds before they arrived obviously

These would be the "hot bod" shirts that Brennan insisted we need. Verdict? Totally needed them. They were a complete hit!

To my loyal readers (ahem, Brita) I promise that there are many posts to come. I plan on being uber diligent and to fill your lives with fashion, food, and the mostly randomness that is my life.
